MuayThai Kickboxing is a hard martial art and the national sport of Thailand. It has been around for centuries and was origninally developed as defense against enemy nations and has since become known for being simple and extremely effective. Known internationally as the “King of the Ring”, it has historically beaten and destroyed challengers from kickboxing, karate, kung fu and other striking arts. It is often referred to as the “Art of Eight Limbs” because it makes use of punches, kicks, elbow, and knee strikes. Techniques taught are learned quickly and are able to be used in a short amount of time. Muay Thai provides stress relief, strength, cardiovascular fitness, self-defense and it is extremely fun!

Officially, we (Pittsburgh MuayThai) are Khaay Muay Sit-Kangmongkorn to honor our Kru Yai Matee "Kangmongkorn" Jedeepitak. Kangmongkorn translates to Dragon Leg, the nickname given to Matee by a sportswriter after seeing him at Lumpinee. The writer coined the name by combining Matee's kicking prowess with the hallmark Dragon Jars of Ratchaburi (Matee's hometown). Kru Matee instructs at Warrior Way in Detroit, but we have the unique honor of training directly under him. The Pittsburgh trainers are Stephen Strotmeyer and Mark DeLuca, with assistant trainers Ben Case and Marcus Fisher

Why Pittsburgh MuayThai?

  • We are real! You would be surprised at how many gyms teach kickboxing and call it MuayThai! Simply adding leg kicks, a basic knee/elbow strike does not make it MuayThai. There are many variations of kicks, knees, elbows depending on range and situation. These subtleties are learned from a REAL MuayThai fighter and trainer.
  • Our trainers have all trained and fought in Thailand! They are certified instructors and fighters themselves!

What we can offer you!

  1. Fitness- Is your goal to get lean and fit? Do you have a special event or a desire to fit into a certain bathings suit or new dress? There is no doubt that through Pittsburgh Muay Thai you will lose weight, look better, and get in better shape. Your cardiovascular conditioning along with your overall strength will improve because lets face it…no one is in better shape than someone who trains to fight.
  2. Self-defense- You will enhance your self-defense skills. Hey, it was originally developed for a wartime enviroment. It is a easy skill to learn and an easy skill to apply in real world situations if absolutely needed.
  3. Fighting- Train to fight in Muay Thai competition or enhance your already existing martial art skills. Muay Thai is widely recognized and trained among mixed martial art fighters. Some of the best MMA fighters (male and female) train in Muay Thai. The staple of many MMA fighters is Muay Thai, Wrestling, and BJJ.

Pittsburgh Muay Thai allows you to take your skills wherever you want! Train to compete or simply train for general fitness (we don’t make you spar if you don’t want too). Regardless, we offer a friendly, ego-free, non-intimidating atmosphere with classes taught by professional certified Muay Thai Kickboxing Instructors!

From Pro to the novice fitness enthusiast check out why Pittsburgh Muay Thai could be for you and only at WRIGHT’S GYM your home for fitness, fighting and self-defense!
